Behind the Name
Why "Don Benjie"
Café Don Benjie is named after Jose Benjamin de Dianous, known in the town of Boquete simply as Don Benjie. A very well-known figure in the community, he has long served Boquete and works closely with community leaders, fellow coffee farm owners, and neighbors to promote the growth and well-being of the town. A lifelong coffee enthusiast and a member of the de Dianous family, whose roots in Bajo Mono coffee go back to 1914, he has run the farm since 2011, committed to quality and to preserving the environment.
HISTORY
A Century of Coffee in Bajo Mono
Early Years
Hacienda Bajo Mono is first owned by Mrs. Archer, an American lady and one of the pioneers of Boquete.
1980s
Dr. Renan Esquivel, a well known Panamanian pediatrician and nature enthusiast, purchases the farm and plants many exotic trees, plants and coffee varietals, still preserved today.
2011 - Today
Jose Benjamin de Dianous G. and his son-in-law, Stefan Arwed Müller, begin operating the farm, committed to quality and preserving the environment.
